Recreating Memories

When my sister Diane found herself depressed and miffed to be back in Texas a few years back, the two of us embarked on a Hill Country road trip to prove there is merit to the state. We dubbed it "Looking for Lyle" to honor the unique and quirky of the landscape and the inhabitants. The events of that week still make us smile, and she was hoping to introduce some of this enchantment to our parents and Donice.

The first gem, Knot on the Loop saloon, was in it's "sometime not open by noon" mode so we couldn't stop and find our dollar among hundreds tacked with flair to the bar ceiling. Robin and the dog Shamu will be sorry she missed us!

Next memory stop - Luckenbach. A magical place of live oak and local talent strumming and singing with the music breaks covered by Cowboy Poet Walt. The magic on this trip was stampeded by 200 Young Life teens converging by bus to the dance hall. The local talent decided he couldn't compete with the noise and commotion, but Diane made sure Walt provided us with some stories. Fred just kind of shook his head and had a look of why am I here on his face.

The bats at the railroad tunnel didn't perform, and the new dive featured as having one of the ten best burgers in Texas was not a unanimous favorite. The Wildseed Farm poppies saved the day for photo opportunities and stories of LBJ's amphibious car at the Western White House provided more quirk.

Think this pillow speaks for all Texans! Thanks for the memories.
